Do you want to knit a super cute sweater? Then you are on the right blog! The Cloud sweater is a cheerful and wearable sweater for babies from 3 to 6 months. For this model I have used a combination of apple green and cream cotton threads from the Katia Tencel-Cotton brand, and I think the combination looks very cute. It will also look charming with turquoise blue or strawberry pink colored yarns.

I won’t take more of your time, here’s the pattern for you to start knitting as soon as possible. I hope you enjoy it! And ... don't forget to share photos of the final project on social media mentioning @CuddlyBabyKnitwear.

Download the printable PDF files here, which include instructions, diagrams, row-by-row explanation of the stitches to knit, and detailed photos of the work.

Instructions

BODY

Work from the bottom part of the sweater. With green yarn, cast on 130 stitches and work 4 rows in Garter stitch.

Change to Eyelet stitch and work 16 rows, starting with row 5 of the stitch sequence. At the same time –and until the end of the project—the first and last 7 stitches are reserved for the edge strip and will follow this distribution:

  • Right-side rows: Knit 7 at the beginning and end of the row.

  • Wrong-side rows: Knit 6 and purl 1 at the beginning of the row, and vice versa at the end of the row.Se comienza la labor tejiendo la parte inferior del cuerpo.

Work 6 buttonholes on the edge strip corresponding to the right back, the first one on row 9 and the rest spaced 18 rows between each other.

Next, change to Clouds stitch inserting 10 increases evenly distributed in the first row. Work until you have 62 rows counting from the beginning of the body.

On row 63, divide the body into 3 sections: right and left back (=36 stitches each), and front (=62 stitches), binding off 3 stitches in between sections and working each section separately.

LEFT BACK

Work in Clouds stitch, making a decrease in row 2 of the left back, on the armhole side (=35 stitches). Work until row 84.

Change to Eyelet stitch and work 17 more rows. On the next row, on the wrong side, bind off 17 stitches to form the neckline (=18 stitches). Work 4 more rows and bind off all stitches.

RIGHT BACK

Work symmetrically to the left back, but incorporating the corresponding buttonholes.

FRONT

Pick-up the stitches left on hold and continue working in Clouds stitch making a decrease on each side of the armholes (=60 stitches). Work until row 84.

Change to Eyelet stitch and work 11 more rows.

Next, divide the work to form the neckline by binding off the 18 center stitches (= 18 stitches for each shoulder) and work each shoulder separately knitting 10 more rows in Eyelet stitch.

Bind off all stitches.

SLEEVES

Start the work from the cuff, casting on 38 stitches with green yarn. Work in Eyelet stitch 18 rows, starting with row 3 of the stitch sequence.

Change to Clouds stitch making 12 increases distributed evenly in the first row. Work until you have a total of 92 rows from the beginning of the sleeve.

Bind off all the stitches. Work the second sleeve the same way.

FINISHING

Make the shoulder and sleeve seams.

Sew the sleeves to the body.

Sew the 6 buttons at the buttonhole height.
